Voices From a Barren Forrest

You are walking. Away from the village. Away from the logs and construction. Towards the river. Your shoes crunch through gravel. It is steep in places. You choose your steps carefully. Eventually, the voices and sounds of the village fade away. You stop to look over the river, across to the forest. There is only water and birdsong.
